Wafer cassettes mainly serve to hold and transport wafers in semiconductor manufacturing. To streamline transportation and minimize contamination risks, chip manufacturers use wafer cassettes for the handling and storage of wafers.
Wafers are not only core semiconductor materials but also electrostatic discharge (ESD) sensitive materials. Heat generated by instantaneous electric fields or currents can cause damage to devices, while dust adsorbed by static electricity will impair production yields and product service life. For this reason, wafer cassettes are generally made of translucent plastic materials with heat resistance, wear resistance and ESD protection additives. Additives of different colors are used to distinguish metal process steps in semiconductor production.
Wafer cassettes can meet the special requirements of fragile devices with stringent surface quality standards, and are also suitable for the display, carrying and transportation of various samples. The interior of a wafer cassette is designed with symmetrical grooves of strictly uniform dimensions, which support the two edges of wafers. A single wafer cassette typically holds 25 wafers.
